Tim Parker
I first discovered ceramics whilst studying on a foundation course at Bath College of Art (UK), and rediscovered my love of pottery when my daughter bought me a bag of clay and tools during lockdown in Melbourne. With a membership to Cairns Potters Club as a birthday present from my other daughter 2 years ago, and subsequent classes with Alison Lacy and Carole Lomax, my love of pottery has been well and truly rekindled. After 35 years as a graphic designer and illustrator, the hands-on creativity is a refreshing contrast to my usual computer-centric world!
I enjoy experimenting with different clays and forms, and favour producing functional pieces that bring some measure of joy to everyday living. I have always loved the graphic quality of lino and woodcut prints and am starting to bring these skills to my work in the form of Sgraffito decoration. Having inherited a wheel, I now have the opportunity to follow my passion whenever I have a spare moment and am excited about where ceramics can take me in the future.
