Lorraine Tait
My name is Lorraine Tait, and I’ve lived in Cairns for 40 years. With 32 years of pottery experience, I studied ceramics at TAFE Cairns for 4 years, completing certifications in wheel throwing, hand building, and sculpture. I have maintained a working studio for 28 years, making and selling pottery. I create my own glazes from raw materials and fire my work in a large gas kiln.
I have a long-standing love for pottery and have experimented with various glaze surfaces, especially enjoying raku pottery and its brilliant colors. Although I am semi-retired, I am eager to pass on my years of experience. Recently, I spent 2 months in Vietnam at the Hope Centre in Hue, a school for intellectually disabled youth affected by Agent Orange. Enhancing their pottery skills was incredibly rewarding.
I have returned to Cairns with a renewed passion for teaching and will be offering wheel- throwing classes at the clubhouse. Contact me for further details.
