Sandra, my partner, has been into pottery since the 1970s and when we lived in Emerald Beach took me along to the Coffs Harbour Pottery Club. Glazing of stoneware pottery was the topic and I was hooked.
The colours and textures of glazes still have my interest. Stoneware glazes were the start but now raku work has become the usual. The options in a Western raku firing seem almost endless, the main limitation is the imagination.
My work is all hand built or slip cast. Never learned to throw on the wheel. Tend to make useful items like mugs, bowls, baking dishes, garden and bonsai pots.
We have a small studio, a couple of electric kilns and a homemade raku kiln. We live in Mareeba.
