I have loved ceramics since I studied it at high school but found it hard as an adult to find the time and space to do it. After I moved to Cairns for a job at the university in 2022, I did Alison’s class and joined the Cairns Potters Club. It’s fantastic to be able to access the club facilities whenever I need to and I love the relaxed, social vibe and how generous and knowledgeable everyone is.
Clay is now my ‘serious’ hobby. There is so much to learn and I spend most of my weekends (and too much money) on it. I am mostly a hand-builder and experiment with slabs, carving and relief work. Ali taught me how to make coloured slips and I would describe my decorative style as ‘Ken Done on crack’ – the more colour I can pack onto a piece, the better…
