I have recently moved from Sydney to Cairns.
I graduated from the National Art School, Sydney in 1997 where I studied Ceramics. Due to work and family commitments, I had little time to work on my ceramic projects until I stopped work four years ago. I then did a TAFE course in Ceramics and found employment at Black Wattle Pottery in Sydney. They manufacture their own clays, glazes and tools as well as sell other manufacturers’ pottery supplies.
Following a pottery tour of South Korea three years ago, I was inspired by lessons from university lecturers and Living Treasures (Korean masters in ceramics). I had the opportunity to explore various potteries, studios, shops and galleries. Korean ceramics is very much like Japanese ceramics but less restrained.
As I am new to Cairns, I have joined the Cairns Potters Club to continue practicing my ceramics skills and to meet with the local potting community. I am a thrower, but I also enjoy hand building and slip casting.
