Monique Burkhead

Monique Burkhead is a ceramic artist who lives in Cairns, Far North Queensland. Born in Rarotonga, Cook Island and raised in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. She always had a strong interest in art, from primary school through to high school, and beyond. She began her journey with clay by doing a Ceramics unit, whilst studying a certificate III In Visual Arts at TAFE. She received her Cert. III of Visual Art in 2020. She decided to return to TAFE in August 2021 to study wheel-throwing pottery and
ceramics.

She has now been working with clay for about 2 years. Monique’s work is greatly influenced by the ocean & rainforest. She combines her love of nature and her fascination with its colours and textures into her ceramics, which she combines with wheel-thrown pottery and sculptural ceramic. She continues to enjoy learning the process and experimenting with different styles and techniques in order to add this to her broad range of skills. Her work has been featured in local galleries.

She has two exhibitions coming up, one is for the Curate Create mentor ship with the Cairns Council at Tanks and the other one is ARTNOW 2022 at the Cairns art gallery later this year. Details to be announced. So please keep your eyes on our newsletter and website for her exhibition details.
