Masae Iwagishi

I stepped into TAFE Ceramic course in 1990 with a friend of mine. That was the beginning of my journey of pottery.

In the class, it wasn’t as free as we are now, but there were various assignments, grade marks were attached, and grade reports were sent every term. I took all the certificate courses, took all the diplomas, took all the subjects in the creative art course, and there were no more classes left to complete.

Meanwhile, I moved to Mossman from Port Douglas and I started going to Douglas Shire Art Society, aka DAB, where many sorts of craft lovers come and share their skills. I enjoyed there very much and it was good for me as I could completely secure my own time for pottery even though my business got very busy.

I like making functional items, such as plates, tea cups, tea pots. I also like drawing on large dishes.

I reside in Cairns now and I am back in TAFE ceramic class again and joined Cairns Pottery Club recently to continue my journey. If you see me at the clubhouse, please feel free to say hi to me!
